Mick Schumacher Ferrari Junior Driver!

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, has been signed to the Ferrari driver academy. Mick has already secured the Formula 3 championship. He also competed in both the Italian and ADAC Formula 4 Championships in which he finished 2nd in both. Although, there hasn't been an official announcement, sources close to the family have confirmed the move.

Although Mick won't have a full role in the actual runnings of the Formula 1 Ferrari team, he may still be seen taking part in some in-season tests. During the F1 season, there are two tests consisting of two-days each, two of those days must be completed by a driver who has not competed in more than two F1 races. Therefore, Mick is the perfect candidate and definitely up for the job. However, Mick has competition in securing these tests from the current Ferrari Academy drivers, Marcus Armstrong and Callum Ilot. Marcus secured the Formula 4 championship in 2017 whilst, Callum finished 4th overall in the Formula 3 European Championship.

Many former Ferrari Academy Drivers have since driven in the pinnacle of motorsports, Formula One, some of them being: Jules Bianchi, Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll. The 2019 grid also holds two current Ferrari Academy Drivers, Charles Leclerc, who will be driving in the iconic red car, and Antonio Giovinazzi, who will replace Leclerc at Sauber.

The Schumacher family have a long standing history with Ferrari, Mick's father, Michael secured 5 of his 7 world titles with the iconic scarlet coloured team. Unsurprisingly, many associate the two icons together after their 5 year domination from 2000-2004.

Mick will be competing in Formula 2 this season with the Prema racing team. Formula 2 is the final step before the big jump to Formula 1, no doubt we will all be seeing the Schumacher name back in Formula 1 in no time!
