As the race weekend begins at Hockenheim, so does Mercedes' 200th race start alongside their 125th year in motorsports. As such, Mercedes will be sporting a one off commemorative livery.
125 years ago the beginning of a huge success story was brewing... July 1894 saw the World's first competitive horseless carriage contest, essentially a motor race, from Paris to Rouen in which an advanced Mercedes-Benz took victory, sparking the start of Mercedes-Benz' triumph in motorsports.
From then on, success has been second nature to Mercedes-Benz with engines and vehicles securing countless victories in multiple motoring series'. Not only have they managed to secure 5 consecutive Formula 1 Driver and Constructors Championship, whilst also gearing up for what looks like a slam dunk 6th double title, they have also managed to prosper in a number of different motoring series.
Mercedes have chosen to run a one off livery for their home Grand Prix, the story behind such livery begins in the early 20th century in which Mercedes ran their cars in the German national racing colours, white. However, in 1934 at the Nurburgring during a race weekend, Mercedes were slightly slower and weighed down. To compromise, overnight Mercedes striped their cars of their white livery down to their silver outer shell, thus, birthing the Silver Arrows!
The livery this weekend displays the car with the classic white Mercedes livery at the front gradually transitioning into todays modern livery of the silver and turquoise. Showing the transition and story behind the Silver Arrows. The W10 even sports the retro Mercedes logo. A fitting nod to such a success story.
