Lewis Hamilton has officially won his fifth World Championship in Mexico! Although he may not have won or even got on to the podium, he has now joined the likes of Juan Manuel Fangio and is only two titles away from the great Michael Schumacher, who won seven World Championships.
The fight for the 2018 title is now over, Sebastian Vettel has been battling alongside Lewis Hamilton since the season opener in Melbourne, where the German managed to take the win. For the first part of the season Ferrari managed to dominate and held off a Mercedes win, until the forth race in Azerbaijan in which Hamilton won. This led many to believe Ferrari could bring Sebastian closer to clinching his 5th world title. However, many factors have played into Ferrari's loss a few being: managerial, technical challenges, race strategies and driver error.
But there can only be one winner, today it is Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton and Mercedes have proved themselves yet again, with this Championship being Mercedes' 4th Drivers Championship in a row. Mercedes are yet to secure their 5th Constructors Championship however, with only 5 points needed Mercedes may as well start celebrating now.
Today will be one of celebration for both Mercedes and Hamilton however, there will be some team members stalling their celebrations due to the mediocre performance of both Mercedes cars in the Mexican Grand Prix. Hamilton finished 4th whilst Valtteri Bottas followed in 5th, although these may not seem like bad positions, it is highly unusual for there to be no Mercedes drivers on the podium, this rarity occurred only once before, in Austria where both cars retired due to technical issues.
28/10/2018 will be a day to remember for Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes and the motorsport world. Whether you love him or hate him, you can't deny that Hamilton is one of the best drivers in the world, today he has written his name into the history books, yet again. Will he go on to beat Michael Schumacher? Only time will tell but for now...
Lewis Hamilton is a five-time World Champion!
