Lewis Hamilton has taken to social media to defend his rival Sebastian Vettel, who has recently received harsh criticism in the press after his crash with Max Verstappen at the Japanese Grand Prix. After the Grand Prix at Suzuka, Hamilton can win a fifth World Championship if he finishes first and Vettel finishes third or below due to the errors of both Vettel and Ferrari throughout the season. The first being in Azerbaijan where Sebastian attempted an overtake on Mercedes' Valterri Bottas but locked up and lost two positions to Hamilton and Raikkonen. However, as Vettel explained on his radio in Suzuka,"If I don't go for that gap and the gap was there then I might as well stay at home." Who knows, if Sebastian hadn't gone for those gaps in the previous races in his career, he may not have achieved all four of his World Championships.
The other four-time World Champion on the Formula 1 grid, Lewis Hamilton, took to instagram to defend his rival,"I feel the media need to show a little more respect for Sebastian. You simply cannot imagine how hard it is to do what we do at our level..." He continued with," It is to be expected that being humans we will make mistakes, but it is how we get through them that counts." This just shows the camaraderie and respect most drivers have for each other. In a sport fuelled by the media, it is expected that some stories in the press will frustrate the drivers. But it is not every day that someone you're battling with will defend you.
