Alfa Romeo's 'Best Surprise' of the Season, Zhou Guanyu, Remains In F1 For 2023

Alfa Romeo have confirmed that Zhou Guanyu will remain with the Swiss based team for a second season.

Zhou, who is currently 17th in the championship standings, has impressed Alfa Romeo in his rookie season earning himself a one year contract extension.

Although Zhou has been outperformed by his more experienced teammate, Valtteri Bottas, Alfa Romeo's team boss Frederic Vasseur has expressed his admiration, "From day one with the team, at the Abu Dhabi test last year, he has impressed me with his approach to work and this is always a very positive trait.

"We knew he was quick, but the way he adapted to Formula 1 in such a short time has been one of the best surprises of our season."

With Zhou now confirmed for the 2023 season, the driver market continues to get smaller, only three seats remain vacant at Alpine, Haas and Williams.

F1 Whispers suggests that, although contractually signed for 2023, Pierre Gasly could leave Alpha Tauri to join Alpine. Whilst, after such a strong debut in Monza, Nyck De Vries has earned himself some bargaining power, which could see him replace Gasly at Alpha Tauri.

Haas have already confirmed Kevin Magnussen for 2023, but have yet to announce his teammate, recent whispers from around the paddock have put Nico Hulkenberg in contention for the seat, whilst others believe Mick Schumacher will remain.

Finally, after announcing the departure of Nicholas Latifi earlier this week, Williams are keeping a close eye on Logan Sargeant, a member of their junior team and Formula 2 driver, as a replacement for the Canadian.
